Summer Training
Our Summer Training was a great success last year building on our previous years efforts. We will be looking to start with our registration night on Thursday the 11th of April at 6pm. We will then commence training from the 18th of April finishing on the 18th of July. Our Kwick cricket sessions will start at 5pm – 6pm with our Colts sessions starting at 6:15 – 7:45pm. The change from Wednesday to a Thursday is to reflect that the majority of our league games are on a Tuesday and we don’t want to have players playing and training on consecutive nights.
We have decided to ensure that our coaching, whilst remaining at a consistently high level, is also priced competitively to allow as many children to participate and represent the club. We therefore will be charging a fee of £30.00 for the summer training for either Kwick Cricket or Colts.
We have additional friendly fixtures this year for our Colts and two confirmed Kwick Cricket tournaments at Chappel and Kelvedon. Our fixtures for the season are as follows;
May
Tuesday 7th League V Rayne Home 6pm start
Friday May 10th Kwick Cricket tournament Chappel
Tuesday 14th League V Chappel Home 6pm start
Tuesday 21st League V Halstead Home 6pm start
Friday 31st Friendly Boxted Away 6pm start

May 22nd Match Report Against Kelvedon CC
Great first win for Colts in first league game at Kelvedon!

Summer has finally arrived and we have had our first game for the new side.
I'm sure it was not just me and Harry who were nervous at the start but Dylan was all smiles as he won the toss and decided to let Kelvedon bat. Alex and Matthew opened the bowling and got us off to a great start with Alex only going for three runs in his four overs, and Matthew getting a wicket in his first over and bowling well.
The whole team encouraged each other all the way through and the fielders supported the bowlers with some good fielding, our second change bowlers of Taylor and Oliver continued to keep the scoring down and although we didn't take any wickets Kelvedon didn't find it easy.
Charlie in his first game as wicket keeper should feel very pleased with himself as in the whole innings we only conceded 5 Byes which is a great effort.
Dylan bowled with Jack at the end of the innings, Dylan bowling a good line and was unlucky not to get a wicket while at the other end Jack was outstanding after settling into his bowling and getting three wickets including the big hitting opening batsman in his last two overs.
The Kelvedon innings ended 84 -5 in 20 overs
Overs Maidens Runs Wickets
A. Morrison 4 2 3 0
M. Halls 3 0 12 1
O. Callaghan 3 0 12 0
T Nicholson 3 0 16 0
D Peakall 3 0 17 0
J Carder 4 0 19 3
After a quick break we started our reply with Daniel and Jordon opening the batting, Daniel(0) was bowled by a very good ball from the impressive bowling of King in the first over, but Jordon and James steadied the ship and were making inroads into the target of 84 when James(1) was caught and bowled.
This brought Taylor to the crease who batting sensible and looking after his wicket moved the score along after Jordon hit a couple of 4's he was out for unlucky 13.
Morgan(2) and Taylor added 44 for the 4th Wicket and with the finish line in sight the running between the wickets got a bit ragged with both Morgan and Matthew(5) being Run out.
Taylor (22) hit a 4 off the first ball of the last over to see Earls Colne to their first win in their first Game!
Just to underline how well the team performed, the Kelvedon coach made a point of saying how well we fielded and encouraged each other. Well done to all the team and a thank you for all the traveling support.

The Fun Day
4th September
Yesterday The Earls Colne Cricket Club Fun Day marked the end of the cricket season. It was a brilliant day for everyone, even the Mums & Dads. The event started off with a warm up and a game of cricket, then everone went and got a drink. After this we were split into three groups, one played another game of cricket, the other had some bowling practise and the final group walked up to the net to use the bowling machine to practise batting, that was, until the bowling machine overheated!!!
After this, Tony Hayns showed his culinary skills and started the BBQ of Delicous Fresh Burgers and Sausages donated by the Colne Valley Butchers. After the second helpings of burgers and hotdogs. There then followed a presentation where everybody got their own Hat, Certificate and Ball. Following this event there was a Parents vs. Kids cricket Match where everybody got involved, parents had the opportunity to bowl or bat against their respective children which was interesting!!.
Overall it was a brilliant day and everybody enjoyed themselves thouroughly. Special thanks to Pacific Finance, who supplied the hats and balls and to Harry Callaghan, Dave Brooker, Ben Mason and Tony Hayns for all their help.
-Oliver Callaghan
Many thanks to Harry Callaghan and Dave Brooker who give up their time every Thursday evening to look after our junior section. We cannot stress enough how important it is to have the junior division. First, and most obvious, they are the future of the club and the future of cricket itself. Secondly, the club's Club Mark status (and associated funding opportunities) is dependent on the club running a thriving junior section. No juniors, no funding, no progression.
Youth Cricket at Earls Colne Cricket Club
Earls Colne Cricket Club holds the prestigious Club Mark accreditation which is reviewed every three years to ensure that clubs are following best practice in their coaching of young players.
Our Youth coaching team is led by Dave Brooker and Harry Callaghan.
Age Group Cricket
Earls Colne Cricket Club will be looking to enter teams into fixtures against local clubs. It is anticipated that this will enhance the skills of players within the youth cricket scetion in a friendly but competitive manner providing a good introduction to the game.
Kwik Cricket
In line with ECB guidelines hard ball cricket starts at U11 and before that soft ball `Kwik Cricket` is used to teach the basic skills in a fun way that involves all the players. The club has already entered two competitions this year and had success at them both with lots of fun too!.
